£755 million was lost to payment fraud in 2016, as criminals managed to trick innocent victims into sharing their personal details, for the purpose of buying items or services using someone else's bank or card account.

Criminals target innocent victims in a variety of ways in both the real and online world. Online they may send a phishing email or install malicious software, designed to either extract personal information or grant them access to your computer. In the real world, a criminal may try to steal your card details for use later when buying something online, by mail order or over the phone.

There are however a number of ways that you can stay safe and avoid fraud. For more information, visit Financial Fraud Action UK.
